Orders of Protection
Orders of Protection
Orders of protection are filed without notice to the other parent and move very quickly. I can help you obtain an order of protection or, if necessary, defend against an order of protection and work to have it dismissed. Before you request a hearing on an order of protection, it is very important that you consult with an attorney. If you lose that hearing, you are not entitled to another hearing and the order of protection lasts for a full year. You will likely be prohibited from possessing firearms and may not be able to spend time with your children for the whole year. Usually, we develop a strategy to join the order of protection hearing with a the Divorce or Paternity case. Then the court is more likely to dismiss the order of protection and if necessary, put protective orders restricting contact between the father and mother in the family law case.
